Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) orchestrated an electric vehicle rally as part of its endeavor to advocate for and advance the adoption of electric vehicles, contributing to increased utilization of locally generated clean and green energy. This initiative was commemorated on the 38th anniversary of NEA's establishment.

The rally, initiated from the NEA headquarters at Ratnapark, traversed through key points including Maitighar, New Baneshwor, Tinkune, Sinamangal, Airport, Gaushala, Chabahil, Maharajgunj, Lajimpat, Lainchaur, and Durbar Marga before culminating at Ratnapark.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, inaugurated the rally. He highlighted the government's commitment to boost domestic electricity consumption and encourage the use of electric appliances and vehicles to nurture a clean environment. The minister emphasized the significance of electric vehicles in reducing dependency on petroleum-based products.

Dignitaries present during the event included Ministry Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising, representatives from the Automobiles Association of Nepal, and electric vehicle users.

NEA has embraced a policy of exclusively procuring electric vehicles for urban zones, while also converting conventional fuel-powered vehicles into electric alternatives. The authority has set up charging stations at 51 different locations, with construction underway at 13 additional sites. Furthermore, plans are in motion for erecting over 100 charging stations throughout the country.

NEA's rally stands as a significant stride towards promoting eco-friendly transportation options and reducing the carbon footprint, aligning with Nepal's commitment to sustainable energy practices.
