Chitwan: In a significant resolution, a land shark in Bharatpur Metropolis-2 has agreed to return over 7.5 kattha of land to a survivor of unscrupulous lending following a mediation process.
The land shark, a resident of Bharatpur Metropolis-2, and the victim, a resident of Ward 4 of the same metropolis, reached an agreement after lodging a complaint against unscrupulous lending at the District Administration Office. According to the agreement, the victim will repay the loan with interest as per legal provisions, and, in return, the land shark will return the land used for the monetary exchange.
The complainant had initially borrowed Rs 15 million in 2072 BS, exchanging five pieces of land. In the recent understanding, the victim is committed to repaying Rs 12 million within the first three months. In the first phase, the land shark will return six kattha and 13.5 dhur of land to the survivor. In the second phase, the victim will clear the remaining Rs 3 million within six months, and the land shark will return one kattha of land after the full repayment, including the interest amount.
Both parties are obligated to provide updates on the implementation of the agreement to the local administration. This resolution follows a previous case where the District Administration Office successfully facilitated the return of two kattha of land to a victim in East Chitwan based on a similar complaint.
The office had received a total of 87 complaints related to unscrupulous lending, with 21 of them being settled through consensus discussions, demonstrating efforts to address the issue of loan sharking in the region.
