Kathmandu: Nepal is set to present a report on its progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development by July. The report, prepared through the Voluntary National Review (VNR) on SDGs, will assess Nepal's efforts toward these goals.

The National Planning Commission organized a workshop in Kathmandu to gather submissions from various stakeholders, aiming to promote coordination and cooperation among diverse agencies. The VNR is part of Nepal's commitment to achieving the SDGs, with efforts underway at the federal, provincial, and local levels. The 16th five-year periodic plan, effective from the upcoming fiscal year, prioritizes endeavors to graduate Nepal from the least developed country category and accomplish the SDGs.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Hanaa Singer-Hamdy, lauded Nepal's progress in achieving sustainable development goals, emphasizing the need for further efforts to meet the goals within the stipulated time. Nepal has achieved around 43% progress in SDGs, according to recent statistics from the National Planning Commission.

The VNR report is expected to be presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum in July 2024.
