Nepal Academy of Music and Drama Commemorates 86th Birth Anniversary of Maestro Ambar Gurung

Kathmandu: The Nepal Academy of Music and Drama (NAMD) paid homage to the legendary music maestro Ambar Gurung on the occasion of his 86th birth anniversary. The event, organized by NAMD, featured a program that celebrated the iconic composer, who holds the distinction of composing the national anthem of Nepal.

In a touching tribute during the program, NAMD Chancellor Nisha Sharma expressed the indelible impact of Gurung's contributions. She highlighted the ongoing efforts of NAMD to fulfill Gurung's dream of realizing the Nepali orchestra.

Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Bhupal Rai, emphasized Gurung's versatile personality, noting that labeling him solely as the composer of the national anthem would be inadequate. Rai regarded Gurung as a shining star in the firmament of music.

The commemorative event included musical performances dedicated to Ambar Gurung, with senior singer Sangita Pradhan presenting 'Kati Samhalu Chotharu,' Kunti Moktan performing 'Ukali Chaddha Pasina Puchhne,' and Bishnu Adhikari delivering 'Mero Yo Geetma Jun Murchhan.'

Attended by renowned musicians, including Deepak Jungam and Shyam Prakash Tamota, NAMD members, and music enthusiasts, the program served as a heartfelt tribute to the maestro's enduring legacy. Gurung's profound influence on Nepali music continues to be celebrated and remembered on his birth anniversary.
