Kathmandu: Nepali woman climber Phunjo Jhangmu Lama from Gorkha district has set a new record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest (Sagarmatha), reaching the summit in less than 15 hours.
Phunjo reached the world's highest peak at 6:23 AM on Thursday, completing the climb in 14 hours and 31 minutes. She began her expedition from Everest Base Camp at 3:52 PM on Wednesday.
Khimlal Gautam, Chief of the Tourism Department's Temporary Field Office, confirmed Phunjo's remarkable achievement.
In 2018, Phunjo previously set a record by scaling Everest in 39 hours and 6 minutes. Her latest accomplishment underscores her exceptional climbing prowess and determination.
