Kathmandu: The Nepalese government has successfully extended broadband internet services to the centres of all local levels across the country. Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun announced this achievement while presenting the economic survey for the fiscal year 2080/81 during a House of Representatives session on Sunday.

Key highlights of the internet service expansion include:

Ward Centres: Broadband internet access has been provided to the centres of 5,951 wards.
Health Centres: A total of 4,272 health centres now have broadband internet.
Community Secondary Schools: 5,341 community secondary schools are equipped with broadband facilities.
This extensive reach of internet services is instrumental in ensuring uniformity in the website formats across all local levels, enhancing digital governance and public service delivery. To date, 63 entities associated with 263 local levels have launched their websites.

Additionally, the implementation of 838 virtual machines is supporting IT systems across 340 government agencies through cloud services, further bolstering the country’s digital infrastructure.

Media Landscape

Newspaper Registration: By the end of Falgun 2080 BS, there were 765 daily newspapers, 39 biweekly, and 298 weekly newspapers registered. In total, 7,997 newspapers have been registered, with Nepali language newspapers dominating at 5,376. In contrast, only two newspapers are published in the Rai language.
Broadcast Media: The number of FM radio stations in regular operation is 720, while there are 107 television stations.
This expansion of broadband internet services is a significant step toward enhancing connectivity and access to information across Nepal, promoting educational and health services, and supporting the media landscape.
