Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has hinted at the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle, citing the unusually long period since the last reshuffle. Speaking at a press conference organized at the ministry on Thursday, Minister Gurung said that although the current ruling coalition of CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress does not face any internal distrust, a reshuffle could happen if there is political consensus among the coalition partners.

“In a country where cabinet reshuffles usually occur every 2–3 months, it has not happened here for 13 months. That is why there is growing public interest, and it’s not unnatural,” said Gurung. He added that if questions are raised about the performance of ministers, changes would be discussed within the party.

Key Cabinet Decisions

Minister Gurung also shared the major decisions made during the cabinet meeting held on July 12.

One significant decision was the approval to accept a grant of 2.8 billion Japanese yen from the Government of Japan. The aid will be used for the emergency rehabilitation of the flood-damaged Sindhuli road, a vital transportation route.

Another key decision was the formation of a task force to review and recommend measures for uniformity in remuneration and service facilities for officials and employees of various public institutions. The task force is led by Ramu Prasad Dotel of Parbat, and includes Ramesh Prasad Shiwakoti of Dolakha and Chandi Prasad Ghimire of Lalitpur. The aim is to bring consistency in pay structures across institutions funded by the state treasury.
