Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has accused the media of conducting a "media trial" in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam and has demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, NC spokesperson and Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the party was clear that the investigation should be free and fair and that it would cooperate with the authorities in this regard.

Mahat also accused the media of trying to implicate innocent people in the scam and said that the party would not allow anyone to be framed for a crime they did not commit.

He also said that the party had not yet suspended NC leader Bal Krishna Khand, who has been arrested in connection with the scam, as he had assured the party that he would prove his innocence in court.

Mahat also said that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba was an introvert and that he would not speak on the issue until the investigation was complete.

The fake Bhutanese refugee scam is a major scandal that has rocked Nepal. The scam involved the illegal issuance of citizenship certificates to people who were not entitled to them. The scam is estimated to have cost the government billions of rupees.

The NC's demand for a fair and impartial investigation is a welcome step. The investigation should be conducted without fear or favor and should be completed as soon as possible. The guilty should be brought to justice and the innocent should be protected.
