Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized that open dialogue and tolerance are key to resolving the existing issues between Nepal and India. Speaking at the launch of a book titled "International Watercourses Law: A Perspective on Nepal-India Cooperation," authored by former administrator Surya Nath Upadhyay, Oli highlighted the need for continued discussion on bilateral matters, particularly through the Eminent Persons Group (EPG), which was formed by mutual agreement to address such issues.

While acknowledging that there are some challenges between the two countries, the Prime Minister noted that Nepal has not yet had the opportunity to submit the EPG report. Oli expressed optimism that India would soon create the right moment to receive the report, which could facilitate the resolution of pending bilateral issues.

"India is our friendly neighbor with a rich culture, and we must engage in open dialogue without attributing challenges solely to geopolitics," he said. Oli also dismissed the notion of using geopolitics as a means to justify selfish actions or as an excuse for not addressing matters openly.

Constitutional expert Dr. Bipin Adhikari, reviewing the book, underscored the importance of dialogue with neighboring countries to harness Nepal’s extensive water resources. The event was organized by the Jalshrot Vikas Sanstha, with discussions focusing on just nationalism and international norms as outlined in the book.
