Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is drafting a "comprehensive plan" to end the ongoing war with Russia, aiming to secure global support for the initiative, as reported by Al Jazeera.

During a news conference in Kyiv with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of presenting a peace plan that the majority of the world will endorse. "This is the diplomatic route we are working on," he stated.

Currently, there are no active negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Public statements from both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin indicate significant differences regarding the terms of a potential peace settlement. Ukraine insists that Russia must withdraw its troops from all internationally recognized Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014, as a precondition for peace talks.

Conversely, Putin demands that Ukraine capitulate further by ceding more territory in its east and south, regions currently occupied by Russian forces. The full-scale invasion launched by Russia in February 2022 has exacerbated these territorial disputes.

Earlier this month, Zelenskyy hosted an international summit in Switzerland to garner support for Ukraine's stance. Over 90 countries participated, with many leaders and senior officials attending. The summit concluded with a communique stressing the need for respecting Ukraine's "territorial integrity" in any peace settlement.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, Russian troops continue to advance, claiming the seizure of a small front-line village recently. Moscow currently occupies approximately 25 percent of Ukraine and has declared the annexation of four additional regions in 2022, though they do not fully control these areas.

At the EU Council Summit in Brussels on Thursday, Zelenskyy announced plans to present a "detailed plan" within months to end the conflict, highlighting the urgency due to the high casualty rates among soldiers and civilians. "We don't have too much time," he remarked.
