Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, announced that the government is undertaking comprehensive measures to curb the spread of cholera in Nepal. Speaking at a parliamentary meeting on Wednesday, Minister Paudel emphasized the robust coordination and collaboration among all three tiers of government aimed at preventing and controlling the disease.

During the session of the House of Representatives, Minister Paudel detailed the government’s strategies to mitigate the cholera outbreak. He highlighted that the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has mobilized rapid task forces at provincial and local levels. These rapid response teams have been deployed to cholera-affected areas, maintaining constant surveillance, identifying affected individuals, and tracing contacts with patients.

Minister Paudel also noted that line ministers from all seven provinces are set to deliberate on enhancing the effectiveness of collective actions against cholera. He underscored the necessity of coordinated initiatives to address public health challenges posed by both dengue and cholera.

The announcement followed a motion of public importance registered by lawmaker Dr. Toshima Karki, who sought effective actions to avert a public health crisis, thereby drawing Minister Paudel’s attention to the issue.

As of now, 68 individuals are reported to be suffering from cholera in Nepal, with cases detected in five districts: Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pyuthan, Kailali, and Makwanpur.

Minister Paudel reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving public health services and preventing the spread of communicable diseases through proactive and collaborative efforts across all levels of administration.
