Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced a cash prize of Rs 6.5 million for Palesha Goverdan, who made history by securing a bronze medal at the Paralympics held in Paris.
In a ceremony at his official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday, PM Oli honored Palesha for her remarkable achievement and congratulated her with best wishes. Palesha earned the bronze medal by defeating her Serbian opponent 15-8 in the under-57 kg women's taekwondo K-44 category, becoming the first Nepali athlete to win a Paralympic medal.
During the event, PM Oli expressed pride in her victory, stating, "Palesha's triumph is Nepal's triumph. This is not just participation, but a compelling performance that has uplifted the nation." He encouraged athletes to continue striving for excellence, adding that Nepal's journey toward international success has begun.
The event also recognized Palesha's coach, manager, and fellow athletes for their contributions to her achievement.
