Rawalpindi: The dengue outbreak in Rawalpindi continues to escalate, with a significant surge in cases reported across the district, particularly in Potohar Town, with Chak Jalal Din emerging as one of the most affected areas.
In response to the worsening situation, health authorities have deployed a mobile health unit to Chak Jalal Din to combat the spread of the virus. The locality has reported 226 positive cases of dengue fever, with 44 new cases confirmed within the last 24 hours, according to the Express Tribune.
Despite ongoing anti-dengue efforts by the District Health Authority, the outbreak shows little sign of slowing down. Currently, 96 patients with confirmed dengue cases are hospitalized, and the total number of cases across the district has reached 543.
Potohar Town has experienced the sharpest increase, recording 25 new cases in just 20 hours. Other areas, including municipal corporation regions, Rawalpindi Cantonment, Chaklala, and rural Potohar, have also reported new infections, contributing to the growing health crisis.
In addition to dengue, the district has recorded two cases of Congo fever and 651 cases of malaria. However, no monkeypox cases have been reported to date.
At the mobile health unit in Chak Jalal Din, 71 patients were examined, with multiple diagnostic tests conducted, including Complete Blood Count (CBC), Renal Function Tests (RFTs), and blood sugar level tests.
Authorities have intensified legal actions against those responsible for breeding mosquito habitats, with 2,826 FIRs registered, 808 buildings sealed, 2,226 challans issued, and fines totaling PKR 14.49 million imposed on violators.
Chief Executive of the District Health Authority, Asif Arbab Niazi, stressed the importance of continued vigilance, urging the public to take precautions until October 15, including preventing water stagnation, wearing protective clothing, and using mosquito repellent regularly.
