Kathmandu: The International Calendar Decision Committee has released the auspicious time for receiving the Bada Dashain tika in 32 countries, including Nepal, for this year’s Bijaya Dashami festival. Laxman Panthi, the committee's member-secretary, announced the decision following rising interest from Hindu communities worldwide seeking guidance on the most favorable time for the Dashain tika ceremony.
According to the committee's recommendation, the most auspicious time for receiving tika in Kathmandu, Nepal, is set for 11:36 a.m. on October 12 (Asoj 26). For those in India, the best time will be at 11:42 a.m. the same day. In the United States, the times vary by region, with 10:01 a.m. in New York, 10:39 a.m. in Frankfurt, Kentucky, 10:05 a.m. for Texas and Washington DC, and 09:55 a.m. in California.
For Canada, Toronto residents are advised to receive tika at 10:15 a.m., while in Vancouver, the auspicious time is at 10:27 a.m. on the same day.
In Japan, the ideal time for tika on October 13 is at 11:35 a.m., while in Australia, it varies slightly between cities, with the best time being 11:21 a.m. in Sydney, 11:27 a.m. in Melbourne and Brisbane, and 11:29 a.m. in Canberra. Wellington, New Zealand, has a designated time of 11:15 a.m. on October 13.
The committee also shared auspicious times for several European and Asian cities. Lisbon, Portugal, is scheduled for 10:24 a.m. on October 12, while London’s best time is 10:21 a.m., and Paris is set for 10:23 a.m. Other times include 10:19 a.m. in Oslo, Norway, 11:21 a.m. in Bangkok, Thailand, and 11:57 a.m. in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Additionally, in the Middle East, the recommended time for tika in Abu Dhabi, UAE, is at 11:45 a.m., with Doha, Qatar, following at 12:00 p.m. The time for Tel Aviv, Israel, is 09:16 a.m. on October 12. In East Asia, Hong Kong's best time is 9:15 a.m. on October 13, while Seoul, South Korea, is at 11:43 a.m.
The committee's chairperson, Dr. Madhab Bhattarai, emphasized that the determination of the tika timing was based on requests from the global Vedic Sanatan Hindu community. This year’s Dashain festival will see tika celebrations conducted across different time zones, helping devotees maintain tradition wherever they are.
