Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to restore power connections to industries that were previously disconnected for failing to pay their dues. This decision follows a directive from the Cabinet to reconnect electricity within 24 hours.
Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, who also chairs the NEA Board of Directors, announced the decision after a board meeting held at the Ministry. The reconnections will be implemented immediately, and industrial arrears will be collected within 15 days based on the Time of Day (TOD) meter system, as per the Cabinet's resolution.
Minister Khadka emphasized that the NEA must issue invoices promptly for electricity consumed via dedicated feeder and trunk lines. He warned that NEA employees failing to provide invoices would face action, and industrialists who do not settle their dues based on the issued bills would also be held accountable.
This move aims to balance the need to support industrial operations while ensuring compliance with payment obligations, following significant pressure from the government to address the issue swiftly.
