Kathmandu: Nepal has achieved a historic milestone in power trade by exporting 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh, starting this Friday. This marks the first instance of Nepal exporting electricity to a country other than India.
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) spokesperson Chandan Kumar Ghosh hailed the development as a significant achievement. The electricity will be transmitted via Madhya Pradesh, India, after the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission of India approved the arrangement.
Tripartite Agreement
The export follows a tripartite agreement signed on October 3 by high-level officials from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of NEA, represented Nepal in finalizing the agreement.
This export marks a new chapter in Nepal’s energy trade, highlighting its growing capacity as a regional energy supplier.
