Kathmandu: Qatar Airways has commenced commercial flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA), marking a significant milestone in Nepal's aviation sector.

An Airbus 330 aircraft from Doha landed at GBIA this afternoon, according to the airport office. This marks Qatar Airways’ first operation at GBIA, with the airline now scheduled to run regular flights on the Doha-Bhairahawa-Kathmandu-Doha route.

General Manager of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Pratap Babu Tiwari, confirmed the start of Qatar Airways' services, expressing optimism about the increased connectivity for international passengers.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has permitted Qatar Airways to operate flights to and from GBIA until November 30.

With Qatar Airways joining the roster, the number of airlines operating at GBIA has risen to five. Other airlines currently serving GBIA include Nepal Airlines, Fly Dubai, Thai Air Asia, and Jazeera Airways.

The addition of Qatar Airways is expected to enhance Nepal’s connectivity with global destinations, further solidifying GBIA's role as a key international gateway.
