Manang: Traveling to Manang, one of Nepal’s most attractive tourist destinations, has become significantly easier due to the ongoing expansion of the road network in the region. Two decades after the initial opening of the track, the Dumre-Bensisahar-Chame road is now undergoing substantial upgrades to improve accessibility.
Suman Adhikari, a sub-engineer with the road expansion project, reported that eight kilometers of the Dumre-Bensisahar-Chame road were blacktopped in the last fiscal year. "The section from Bensisahar to Khudi has been completed, and further expansion is underway," Adhikari said. He also noted that the Manang-Marsyangdi hydropower project has played a vital role in advancing road construction, particularly in challenging terrains. "The hydropower projects require transportation of construction materials, which has facilitated road development in this area," he added.
A budget of Rs 510 million has been allocated for the construction of roads and bridges along the Bensisahar-Chame section. Assistant Manager of Butwal Hydropower Company Limited, Pratikmansingh Pradhan, highlighted the collaborative efforts between hydropower companies and road projects to enhance infrastructure. “Widening roads and improving infrastructure in this tourist hub will not only benefit energy production but also boost tourism and improve the economic status of locals,” said Pradhan.
He emphasized that expanding the road network is essential for easing the movement of tourists and supporting daily life in the district. The improved connectivity is expected to increase the flow of visitors to Manang, enhancing its appeal as a prime tourism destination while simultaneously uplifting the living standards of the local community.
