Kyiv: Ukraine will require over $500 billion to rebuild after four years of war, according to a joint assessment released Tuesday by Ukraine, the World Bank Group, the European Commission, and the United Nations.

"The total cost of reconstruction and recovery in Ukraine is $524 billion over the next decade," the statement revealed, adding that this figure is 2.8 times the country’s estimated GDP for 2024.

The study assessed damages from February 2022 to December 2024, revealing that 13% of Ukraine’s housing stock has been damaged or destroyed, impacting over 2.5 million households. The frontline regions in the east, north, and south have sustained about 75% of the destruction.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos described the report as proof of "the extraordinary damage Russia has inflicted on Ukraine."

The previous report in February 2024 estimated $486 billion in recovery costs, highlighting how damage has escalated over the past year. Currently, Ukraine's reconstruction efforts focus on restoring energy infrastructure and housing, as Russian attacks on the power grid continue to cause widespread blackouts.
