Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal and the National Teachers' Federation have reached a nine-point agreement, effectively ending the teachers' protest that had been ongoing since Chaitra 20.
The agreement, signed after discussions with Education Minister Raghuji Pant, includes key provisions such as:
-Subsidized medical treatment for teachers and school staff in civil hospitals,
-Accumulation of sick leave for temporary and relief teachers,
-Inclusion in the Social Security Fund,
-Adjustment of teacher grades, and
-Provision of minimum wages to child development teachers.
The Cabinet approved the agreement on Wednesday, and the Federation announced the withdrawal of all protest programs starting Thursday. Schools will resume operations, and the Grade 12 exams will proceed as scheduled on Baisakh 21.
However, Federation President Laxmikishore Subedi warned that a stronger protest will follow if the long-awaited Education Act is not enacted by Asad 15. The current pause, he said, comes only after receiving a written commitment from key parliamentary figures and a formal Cabinet decision.
