KIEV: At least four people were killed and 20 injured in overnight Russian drone and missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks damaged residential buildings, railway infrastructure, and caused multiple fires.
Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko confirmed that 16 of the injured were hospitalized. Ukraine’s emergency services reported that rescue teams are actively responding to the devastation caused by repeated UAV and ballistic missile strikes.
Ukraine’s national railway operator warned of train delays, as several rail lines in the Kiev region were damaged.
Simultaneously, massive aerial strikes were reported in Lutsk, Ternopil, and Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine. Ternopil military head Vyacheslav Negoda called it “the largest airstrike on our territory to date.” In Lutsk, at least five people were injured, and private homes and educational institutions were hit.
Buildings and vehicles were also damaged in Khmelnytskyi, according to the regional governor.
In retaliation, Ukraine launched a drone attack in Russia’s Tula region, injuring three people, while Russian air defenses reportedly shot down another drone targeting Moscow.
The escalation follows Kiev’s recent drone operations inside Russian territory, prompting Russian President Vladimir Putin to vow retaliation.
