Kathmandu: The National Examination Board (NEB) has officially published the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2081 BS. According to NEB, out of the total 499,183 students who participated—431,466 regular examinees and 67,715 grade improvement examinees—61.81 percent have been graded.

The SEE was held from Chaitra 7 to 15 across the country. Although the results have been announced, the board said it will take some time to fully upload the results on official websites.

GPA Distribution:
According to NEB Chairman Dr. Mahashram Sharma, the number of students achieving the highest GPA category is encouraging this year compared to last year.

-GPA 3.60 – 4.00: 48,177 students

-GPA 3.20 – 3.60: 81,385 students

-GPA 2.80 – 3.20: 89,124 students

-GPA 2.40 – 2.80: 48,479 students

-GPA 2.00 – 2.40: 4,126 students

-GPA 1.60 – 2.00: 8 students

The results also reveal that 167,597 students were disqualified—meaning they did not secure the minimum scores required to be graded.

Additionally, the exams of 126 students have been cancelled due to various reasons including rule violations.

Context and Response:
Last year, the percentage of students who were graded stood at only 48%, leading to widespread concern. In response, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had urged authorities to reconsider grading policies to avoid excessive student failure rates.

This year’s increase to 61.81% graded is seen as a response to that directive, though educational experts continue to raise questions about quality, transparency, and evaluation standards.

The NEB has urged students to be patient as the full results are being made available online in phases.
