Kathmandu: Iran has declared that it will hold the United States accountable for the recent attacks on its nuclear facilities during any future negotiations regarding its nuclear program. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaie stated that seeking compensation for the June 22 attacks will be a top priority in Iran’s diplomatic agenda.
The attacks, led by Israel and briefly joined by the US, targeted key Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. The incident prompted Iran to suspend ongoing high-level nuclear talks, which had been active since April, and to halt cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iran has made it clear that direct negotiations with the US are off the table, and it has demanded concrete guarantees that no such military assaults will be repeated if talks are to resume. In response, the US has rejected Iran’s compensation demand, calling it “ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, Baqaie confirmed that the IAEA’s deputy director is expected to visit Iran within the next 10 days. However, Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission, stated that the IAEA team will be restricted to technical discussions only and will not be allowed to conduct on-site inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The growing tension between Iran, the US, and Israel threatens to further derail any progress toward reviving the nuclear deal and has raised concerns about escalating regional instability.
