Kathmandu: Bhagwat Bhattarai of Setopati.com has been elected as the new president of the Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON). He secured 110 votes during the 27th general assembly and convention held in Kathmandu.
Close Contest for Presidency
Bhattarai, a former general secretary of SEJON, defeated his competitors Biswas Regmi (92 votes) and Asha Thapaliya (41 votes) to claim the top position.
New Leadership Team
Vice-President: Jeevan Basnet (KaroBar Daily) — elected unopposed
General Secretary: Kamal Kumar Basnet (RSS) — 139 votes, defeating Achyut Puri (Online Khabar) with 104 votes
Secretary: Shankar Pandit (Himalayan Television) — elected unopposed
Committee Members
Seema Tamang (Kantipur Daily), Kamal Dhital (Bahrakhari.com), Arjun Tamang (Tourism Party), Bhojraj Bhandari (Corporate News), and Raju Baskota (Clickmandu) were elected as members of the committee.
Strong Participation
Out of 266 registered economic journalists, 246 votes were cast in the election, reflecting strong participation from the community.
