Kathmandu: President Ram Chandra Poudel has dissolved the House of Representatives on the recommendation of newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the President and signed by Deputy Secretary Rupesh Jung Thapa Magar, the dissolution took effect from 11:00 PM on Friday, Bhadra 10.
The dissolution comes just hours after Prime Minister Karki was sworn in as the head of the interim government with a mandate to hold fresh elections within six months.
This move formally clears the way for the interim government to prepare for polls and steer the country through the transitional period following days of nationwide unrest, the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and the unprecedented rise of the Gen-G movement.
