Kathmandu: The government has officially decided to declare those killed during the recent Gen-G movement as national martyrs and honor them with state recognition. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday evening.

Minister for Home, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Om Prakash Aryal told media that the government will observe Asoj 1 as a public holiday to mark a day of mourning. The national flag will be hoisted at half-mast across the country in tribute.

Relief and Support for Victims’ Families
The cabinet also decided to provide Rs 1 million in relief to the families of those killed in the movement and an additional Rs 500,000 for other expenses. Free medical treatment will be provided to those injured, while helicopters or vehicles will be arranged to transport the bodies to remote areas.

Minister Aryal further stated that the government will assist in the cremation process of the deceased.

To honor the memory of the martyrs, the cabinet decided to construct a Gen-G Jagran Memorial Park.
