Kathmandu: Five additional writ petitions were filed in the Supreme Court on Sunday challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives, bringing the total number of such petitions to 16.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the petitions seek the annulment of the Prime Minister’s appointment, revocation of the parliamentary dissolution, and restoration of the House. The cases have been registered under instigation and mandamus provisions and will be heard by the Constitutional Bench. The hearing is scheduled for Kartik 28.
The court had earlier suspended all regular activities — except for the registration and hearing of habeas corpus and urgent petitions — after its premises were damaged by arson, stone-pelting, vandalism, and looting during the Gen-G protest on Bhadra 24.
The registration of writ petitions resumed on Ashoj 28, leading to the filing of new cases.
The petitioners include Advocates Dr. Premraj Silwal, Yubaraj Poudel, Kirtinath Sharma Poudel, Ayush Badal, Maqbul Miya, Khadak Bahadur Shah, Dambar Prasad Shiwakoti, Dal Bahadur Dhami, Prakash Bhujel, and Bipin Dhakal, among others.
Earlier, on Ashoj 26, a full meeting of all Supreme Court judges, including Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, had decided to register and hear the writ petitions related to the dissolution issue.
