Kathmandu: KP Sharma Oli has been re-elected as the President of the CPN-UML for a third term, defeating Ishwor Pokharel in the party’s 11th General Convention. With this victory, Oli’s panel has secured overwhelming control of the party’s top leadership.

Out of 2,263 general convention delegates, 36 did not cast their votes. Oli received 1,663 votes for the presidential post, while Pokharel secured 563 votes.

Oli Panel Wins Majority of Posts
A total of 19 office bearers were elected through the convention. All but two of these positions were won by candidates from the Oli panel, underlining his firm grip on the party’s leadership structure.

Two Wins for Pokharel Panel
Despite Pokharel’s defeat in the presidential race, two candidates from his panel managed to secure key positions. Gokarna Bista was elected Vice-President with 1,368 votes, while Yogesh Bhattarai won the post of Deputy General Secretary with 1,348 votes.

New Leadership Structure
As per the UML statute, the party’s leadership now comprises one President, five Vice-Presidents, one General Secretary, three Deputy General Secretaries, and nine Secretaries. With the latest results, the UML enters its new term with Oli firmly at the helm and his panel commanding near-total control of the party’s executive leadership.
