Kathmandu: Nepal's major communist leaders are set to appear on the same platform for the first time in six years, signaling renewed efforts to strengthen cooperation among leftist forces amid the country's evolving political landscape.

The gathering comes as communist parties explore greater unity following political realignments and the growing influence of the ruling National Independent Party (RASWPA), which currently commands a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

Madan Bhandari Birth Anniversary Provides Common Platform
The leaders will participate in a special discussion programme marking the 75th birth anniversary of the late Madan Bhandari, the former General Secretary of the CPN (UML) and the architect of the "People's Multiparty Democracy" (Janata Bahudaliya Janabad) doctrine.

The event, organised by the Madan Bhandari Foundation, will be held at the National Auditorium in Kathmandu, with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari attending as the chief guest.

Former President Bhandari Seen as Key Facilitator
Political observers view the programme as significant because it brings together leaders who have remained divided since the breakup of the former Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The once-powerful unified communist party fractured amid political and leadership disputes involving KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda," resulting in multiple splits within Nepal's communist movement.

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari is widely seen as having played an important role in facilitating dialogue among the senior leaders and encouraging them to set aside past differences for a common platform.

Senior Leaders to Discuss Political Challenges
Among those scheduled to participate are CPN (UML) Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepal Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda," former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior communist leader Jhalnath Khanal, and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav.

The leaders are expected to discuss the country's current political challenges, the future direction of leftist politics, and the prospects for greater cooperation among communist forces.

Political Significance Closely Watched
The joint appearance of Nepal's leading communist figures is being closely watched by political observers, who see it as a symbolic step toward rebuilding cooperation among fragmented leftist parties.

Whether the initiative develops into a broader political alliance or remains a symbolic display of unity is expected to become clearer in the coming months, as parties continue to assess the country's changing political dynamics.
