KP Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak Arrested Following Government Move on Karki Commission Report

Kathmandu: Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been arrested by police from his residence in Gundu. The arrest was carried out by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, led by SSP Santosh Khadka.

Police had reportedly surrounded Oli’s residence since the night before executing the arrest.

Former Home Minister Also Detained
Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has also been taken into custody. According to officials from the Crime Investigation Office, he is being brought to the Bhadrakali Police Station for further proceedings.

Action Linked to Karki Commission Report
The arrests come shortly after the government decided to immediately implement the findings of the inquiry commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki.

The commission was formed to investigate incidents related to protests held on Bhadra 23 and 24. The report had earlier been submitted to the Government of Nepal but had not been made public, drawing criticism from various political groups.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Youth and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, confirmed that a decision has now been taken to act on the report without delay.
