Nawalparasi: Students from eight community and institutional schools in Gaindakot Municipality, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Sustapurba), recently received training on digital peace building. The training, led by journalist Krishna Sapkota, focused on teaching students about the importance of internet safety and precautionary measures while browsing online.

Sapkota emphasized the need for students to be aware of the various issues arising from the misuse of the internet. Topics covered during the training included fake news, misinformation, privacy concerns, hate speech, online child abuse, cyberbullying, online fraud, and other related aspects.

Sanjeev Ghimire, a trainer from Governance International Nepal (GIN), highlighted the growing significance of internet usage in today's society. He stressed that as more people willingly or unwillingly become part of the digital world, it is crucial for the community to be educated about responsible internet use.

Ghimire noted that with increased access to online platforms such as business, banking, social networking, e-commerce, and e-payment systems, individuals are vulnerable to various troubles resulting from misuse.

The training session saw the participation of 60 students ranging from grades eight to twelve, along with seven Social Studies teachers. Rekha Shrestha, the Head Teacher of Vijaya Samudayik Sikshya Sadan, expressed satisfaction with the training, highlighting its effectiveness in helping students understand the advantages and disadvantages associated with the internet.

The event, organized on Thursday, was a collaboration between GIN, Vijaya Samudayik Sikshya Sadan, and Vijaya Development Resource Centre.
