Former PM Koirala Remembered for His Role in Peace Process, Democratic Transition

Kathmandu: Today, the birth centenary of Girija Prasad Koirala, the late former President of the Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister, is being celebrated across the country with various programs. Koirala, who was born on 18th Ashad 1981, passed away on 6th Chaitra 2066 BS.
To commemorate this occasion, several activities have been organized by the sister organizations of the Nepali Congress and other charitable groups. These activities include blood donation camps, distribution of fruits to the needy, talk programs, and illumination events.
Former President Koirala played a pivotal role in leading the historic peace process in Nepal. He successfully brought the then rebel Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), which had been engaged in armed struggle, into mainstream politics and helped establish a republic in the country.
Throughout his career, Koirala served as the Prime Minister of Nepal five times and held the position of President of the Nepali Congress for an extended period of time.
