Authorities Uncover Major Gold Smuggling Operation, 6 Arrested

Kathmandu: In a significant development, the Department of Revenue Investigation has made a major breakthrough in a recent gold smuggling case, resulting in the arrest of six individuals involved in the illegal activity. The case also led to the apprehension of a smuggling agent who was attempting to transport approximately 100 kilograms of precious yellow metal.

The Director-General of the Department, Nawaraj Dhungana, stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts to track down other individuals linked to the gold smuggling are underway. As of now, the identities of those arrested have not been disclosed to the public.

The breakthrough came when a special team from the Department conducted an operation on Wednesday, successfully seizing a substantial amount of gold right in front of the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office. The gold was being transported through the customs pass in a taxi. The team acted promptly and arrested two individuals caught with the gold at the TIA Customs Office gate.

In a recent development, Dhungana confirmed that four more individuals involved in the scam were apprehended this morning. The investigation revealed that the smuggled gold originated from Hong Kong.

This incident marks a significant milestone as it is the first time such a large quantity of yellow metal has been seized in Nepal. Further details of the case are yet to be disclosed as the authorities continue their pursuit of individuals who are still on the run.
