Kathmandu: Two additional individuals from China have been apprehended in relation to a case involving the smuggling of gold. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) dispatched law enforcement officers who successfully captured these Chinese nationals in Kathmandu during the preceding night.

Nepal Police's spokesperson and Inspector General, Kuber Kadayat, have disclosed that an ongoing inquiry is in progress to ascertain the extent of their participation in the gold smuggling activity. As of now, the identities of the detained Chinese citizens have not been disclosed by the Nepal Police.

This development follows the arrest of four Chinese nationals on August 16, also orchestrated by the CIB. Substantiating evidence has led to the decision to press charges against them for crimes related to organized criminal activities and the illicit transportation of gold. The cumulative count of individuals apprehended in connection to this gold smuggling operation has now reached a total of 23.

The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) had previously confiscated a substantial volume of illicitly smuggled gold originating from Hong Kong on July 19. The contraband was ingeniously concealed within the brake components of a motorbike.
