Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has postponed his upcoming visit to France, Italy, and Germany, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday. This decision comes in light of the recent devastating earthquake that struck Nepal.
In a press release, President Paudel's press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, announced the decision to postpone the visit. The President deemed it inappropriate to leave the country during a natural disaster like the earthquake, which has resulted in significant loss of life and property in Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim, and other affected areas.
In response to the disaster, President Paudel will visit the earthquake-affected region to assess the situation of the affected people. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale and its epicenter in Jajarkot, occurred on the night of November 3.
The Council of Ministers had previously approved the President's visit to the three European countries on November 2. However, President Paudel decided to postpone the visit given the situation at home, despite its importance for Nepal and its people.
The original agenda for the visit included President Paudel's participation in the 'One Polar Planet Summit' and the 'Paris Pact for People and Planet' conferences under the Peace Forum Programme scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from November 9 to 11. These events were to be attended at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
