Kathmandu: In a proactive move to address the issue of stray cattle in the city, the Kathmandu Metropolis (KMC) has announced plans to manage these animals effectively. Mayor Balen Shah shared that any cattle found roaming the streets will be attended to by the local government and transported to a designated shelter known as the 'kanji house' located in Kopugaun of Dakshinkali municipality-7.

Expressing concern over the plight of stray cattle, Mayor Shah emphasized that these animals often face starvation and lack access to drinking water and necessary medical care. Additionally, their presence on the streets poses an increased risk of road accidents. To address these challenges, the decision to manage them in the 'kanji house' has been taken.

In a social media post, Mayor Shah outlined the initiative, stating that 10 metric tons of silage have been procured to feed the stray cattle. Moreover, two workers have been hired on a daily basis to provide care for these animals. The Dakshinkali municipality is expected to collaborate with the Kathmandu Metropolis to facilitate the effective management of stray cattle.

This initiative reflects the local government's commitment to animal welfare and road safety, addressing the challenges faced by stray cattle while ensuring their well-being in a dedicated shelter.
