Handicraft Fair Records Transactions Worth Rs 20 Million

Kathmandu: The recent handicraft fair held in the federal capital from December 14 to 18 witnessed transactions amounting to Rs 20 million, as reported by the Nepal Handicrafts Federation. The primary objective of the fair was to promote Nepali handicrafts in the international market.

The event featured the participation of provincial and district handicrafts associations, as well as commodity associations, showcasing a diverse range of products such as jewelry, cotton clothes, pashmina, leather goods, natural fibers, and bamboo items. Approximately 120 sales stalls were set up during the fair, facilitating interactions between national entrepreneurs and handicraft importers.

The fair aimed to strengthen commercial ties within the sector and attract potential consumers. Minister for Industry at Bagmati Province, Ram Krishna Chitrakar, highlighted the significant contribution of handmade products to the national economy, emphasizing the need to protect and expand the sector as it fosters entrepreneurship and generates employment.

According to the Federation, Nepal currently exports handicrafts to more than 60 countries, with the total market value of handicrafts estimated at Rs 24 billion. Approximately 1.1 million people are engaged in the handicraft sector, contributing significantly to the national economy. Nepal exports handicrafts worth Rs 12 billion annually.
