Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has taken a significant step towards securing his position by announcing plans to seek a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives (HoR) on May 20.
The decision comes in response to recent political developments, notably the withdrawal of support from the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Nepal, on May 13, following internal divisions within the party.
Under Article 100(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, Prime Minister Prachanda is mandated to present a motion in the HoR for a vote of confidence within 30 days of a coalition partner withdrawing its support.
In adherence to this constitutional provision, Prime Minister Prachanda has formally communicated his intention to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, seeking inclusion of the confidence vote on the parliamentary agenda for May.
The current government, helmed by Prime Minister Prachanda under the leadership of CPN (Maoist Centre), relies on coalition support from various political parties, including CPN (UML), Rastriya Swotantra Party (RSP), CPN (Unified Socialist), among others, in the HoR.
With the fate of his premiership hanging in the balance, Prime Minister Prachanda's bid for a vote of confidence on May 20 is poised to be a pivotal moment in Nepal's political landscape, shaping the trajectory of the nation's governance in the days ahead.
