Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has intensified its demand for the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee, emphasizing the need to safeguard the savings of cooperative depositors and address embezzlement issues.

During a meeting of the NC Parliamentary Party chaired by President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the party reiterated its call for the establishment of a parliamentary probe committee. This demand aligns with similar appeals from other political parties within the federal parliament.

Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of NC, emphasized the significance of forming the probe committee, highlighting its crucial role in investigating cooperative fund mismanagement and ensuring accountability.

The NC's stance has led to disruptions in parliamentary proceedings, prompting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and House Speaker Devraj Ghimire to engage in consultations with various political leaders to address the ongoing gridlock.

Prime Minister Dahal has initiated discussions with coalition partners CPN (UML), CP (Maoist Centre), and Rastriya Swatantra Party, aiming to find a resolution to the impasse. Similarly, Speaker Ghimire has been engaging with leaders and whips from both ruling and opposition parties to restore regular business in the House.

Despite efforts to negotiate, parliamentary proceedings remain stalled, with the opposition seeking additional time for discussions. This delay has affected scheduled meetings of both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.

The NC, in collaboration with other opposition parties, is actively pursuing discussions to forge a collective stance on ending the parliamentary deadlock. Participants, including representatives from Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Democratic Samajwadi Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party, are convening at the parliament building in New Baneshwar to strategize on a unified approach.

As tensions persist within the federal parliament, the NC's persistent demand for a parliamentary probe committee underscores the party's commitment to transparency and accountability in addressing issues of financial mismanagement and ensuring the protection of depositors' savings.
