Taskforce Presents ToR for Parliamentary Probe Committee on Cooperative Fund Issues

Kathmandu: The taskforce assigned to develop the terms of reference (ToR) for the parliamentary probe committee has submitted its report to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda'. This development marks the end of the parliamentary impasse following a political consensus on the issue.

The taskforce, coordinated by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, presented the report to the Prime Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. PM Dahal expressed his gratitude to the taskforce members for their effective contribution.

Key Points of the ToR
Study and Analysis: The committee is tasked with studying the crisis in cooperatives, examining related laws, institutional purposes, financial regulations, and transparency measures.
Protection of Depositor Savings: The committee will recommend ways to protect and return the savings of depositors in crisis-affected financial cooperative institutions.
Investigation of Complaints: The committee is mandated to investigate complaints from cooperative members and depositors regarding embezzlement, misappropriation, and improper transactions. It will also look into complaints about illegal fund transfers from cooperative institutions to other companies, such as Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd.
Recovery and Action: The committee will suggest measures to recover at-risk amounts and recommend actions against those involved in financial irregularities.
Specific Focus: The committee will specifically study 29 problematic cooperatives along with other cooperatives that are under scrutiny.
Duration and Composition
Term: The committee will operate for three months.
Members: The seven-member committee includes taskforce members Jeevan Pariyar, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, Shishir Khanal, Hitraj Pandey, and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.
