Kathmandu: President Ram Chandra Paudel has highlighted the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection in his message on the occasion of World Environment Day 2024. He emphasized that Nepal's policies on forest, environment, and climate change have resulted in significant achievements in these areas.

President Paudel's message underscored that sustainable development should inspire collective efforts towards environmental protection. He praised the progress made under Nepal's national policies and called for continued dedication to environmental improvement. "I believe that today's day will provide more enthusiasm for Nepal to enforce the commitments made in various international forums to reduce the impact of air, water, and land pollution," he stated.

The President also stressed the importance of making the ecological relationship between forests, water, plants, agriculture, and animals more life-oriented, which is essential for realizing the constitutional right to live in a clean environment. He urged all Nepalis to pledge to improve their local environments and actively engage in promoting environmental improvement activities.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' echoed similar sentiments, urging efforts to minimize the effects of climate change and ensure a sustainable and clean environment for future generations. He highlighted the unorganized and unscientific use of plastic polymers as a major environmental challenge, calling for development and environmental protection to complement each other rather than compete.

"The government is active to ensure Nepal's rights to climate damage by implementing the issues and commitments made by Nepal in various international forums," PM Dahal stated. He called for priority to be given to sustainable, environment-friendly, and green development in the policies and programs across all three levels of government.

On this World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5 at the call of the United Nations, PM Dahal emphasized the need for a national campaign to promote sustainable development and environmental protection. The national slogan for this year, "Our Land: Our Future," reflects this commitment.
