Kathmandu: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), Bishwaprakash Sharma, has called on the government to uphold impartiality while investigating individuals accused of criminal offenses or other wrongdoings.
Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Sharma emphasized that the government must demonstrate its commitment to treating all individuals equally during investigations. He noted the recent apprehension of media entrepreneur Kailash Sirohiya over a citizenship issue, where no significant findings emerged during the investigation, as an example of the need for unbiased proceedings.
Sharma assured that the NC is prepared to fully cooperate with the government if it ensures impartial investigations into alleged irregularities dating back to the 1990s. He welcomed the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate alleged fraud involving cooperative funds, which also reportedly involves Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, considering it a positive step forward.
However, Sharma criticized Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' for seeking a vote of confidence on May 20, despite having 22 days left before the deadline, amid opposition protests. He described the move as contentious for the party.
Expressing concerns over accusations made by CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli against the NC, Sharma challenged the Home Minister to prove the party's involvement in the alleged sale of public property to a company and to take action if the charges are verified. He also criticized the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister for statements made in parliament, accusing the NC of leaking national information to foreigners.
