Kathmandu: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted excessive heat for the central and western Tarai regions over the next three days. This heat wave is anticipated to affect parts of the southern plains, particularly in Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces, where temperatures have recently soared to 40 degrees Celsius or higher.

In its special bulletin issued today, the Division predicts that the heat wave will persist, urging the public to take necessary precautions to safeguard against the adverse effects of such extreme weather conditions. The intense heat can lead to various health issues, including fatigue, weakness, increased thirst, headaches, muscle cramps, dizziness, muscle pain, vomiting, and even unconsciousness.

To mitigate the risks associated with the heat wave, the Division has recommended several precautionary measures. Staying indoors in cool areas is highly advised, as well as wearing lightweight cotton clothing to help manage body temperature. When going outdoors, individuals should avoid direct sun exposure, wear hats, and seek shade whenever possible.

Additionally, the Division emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated by consuming plenty of fruits, water, and fluids such as fresh juice. This is crucial to prevent dehydration and other heat-related illnesses. These guidelines are intended to help the public manage the extreme temperatures and reduce the health risks posed by the heat wave.
