Solukhumbu: The recent flood in the Thame rivulet has severely disrupted people's movement above Namche in Solukhumbu district. The flood, which occurred on Friday, has cut off the tourist route from Phakding to Namche, effectively disconnecting the lower belt from the Everest region.

According to Deputy Inspector of Police Hem Bahadur Katwal, the flood damaged approximately 100 meters of the trail between Phakding and Namche in two locations. This has caused a complete disruption of traffic from Lukla to Namche. The only remaining footpath to the Everest trail has also been blocked after the Bhotekoshi River eroded it.

The flood has also devastated Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5, washing away 20 houses, hotels, a health post, and a school. A joint effort by the Nepali Army and Nepal Police resulted in the rescue of 93 people from Thame, who are now being sheltered in a house behind the Army camp. Additionally, 42 people have found refuge in a local community building, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarika Prasad Ghimire.
