Kathmandu: The United States has agreed to donate two M28 Skytrucks to Nepal, valued at approximately USD 37 million. These aircraft, which will be delivered by January 2025, are short take-off and landing planes, one of which will serve as a dedicated air ambulance, a first for Nepal. The donation package also includes pilot and maintainer training, as well as parts support, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Kathmandu.

This contribution is part of the US's broader commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Nepal, particularly in the area of disaster recovery and relief efforts. The US had previously committed to providing Nepal with two Bell 412 helicopters, valued at USD 44 million, which will be delivered in the coming years. This package also includes comprehensive pilot and maintainer training, along with logistics support.

During a recent visit, US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma announced an additional commitment of USD 100 million in grant assistance for further helicopters, training, and support equipment, pending congressional approval and fund availability.

Both nations are collaborating to ensure that these aircraft are customized to meet Nepal's specific needs for disaster relief and recovery operations.
