Kathmandu: Nepal is set to export an additional 251 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the Indian states of Bihar and Haryana. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under India's Ministry of Power has granted approval to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to export 125.89 MW to Haryana and 125 MW to Bihar.

Currently, the NEA is already selling 190 MW of electricity to Haryana. With the new approval, the total amount of electricity exported to state-level distribution companies in India will increase to 360 MW.

This surplus electricity from Nepal is typically sold to Bihar and Haryana during the monsoon season, from June to October, when the country experiences higher levels of hydropower generation.
