Patan (Lalitpur): Today marks the celebration of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, observed with great devotion by Hindus across Nepal. Devotees have been gathering in large numbers at the famous Shri Krishna Temple in Mangal Bazaar, Lalitpur, since early morning to partake in the festivities.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami, celebrated on Bhadrakrishna Ashtami according to the lunar calendar, commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna during the Dwapar era. Lord Krishna is revered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, known for his role in protecting humanity from evil and guiding people on the paths of knowledge (Gyanayog), action (Karmayog), and devotion (Bhaktiyog).

The Shri Krishna Temple in Patan, an architectural marvel made entirely of stone, was built by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla and is a focal point of the Janmashtami celebrations. Devotees, particularly women, have been seen lighting oil-fed lamps, chanting prayers, and singing devotional songs in honor of Lord Krishna.

Various religious organizations have also organized processions, featuring idols of Lord Krishna and decorative portraits, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The temple's management, supported by Nepal Scouts volunteers and Lalitpur Metropolitan Police, has arranged for orderly lines of devotees on the south and north sides of the temple to accommodate the large crowds.

As the night progresses, many devotees will stay awake, continuing their prayers and celebrations, honoring the life and teachings of Lord Krishna, who is celebrated as a symbol of truth, justice, and divine love.
