Dengue Cases Surge Past 6,000 Nationwide, Over 600 Cases in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu: The number of dengue infections in Nepal has surpassed 6,000, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). The mosquito-borne disease has been reported in all districts except Humla and Mustang, with a total of 6,347 confirmed cases and three fatalities so far.

Gandaki Province has the highest number of dengue cases, totaling 2,954, while Karnali Province has recorded the lowest at 93. The breakdown of cases in other provinces is as follows: 791 in Koshi Province, 100 in Madhesh Province, 1,612 in Bagmati Province, 444 in Lumbini Province, and 432 in Sudurpaschim Province.

In the Kathmandu Valley alone, 680 cases have been reported, with 511 in Kathmandu district, 69 in Bhaktapur, and 100 in Lalitpur.

In response to the rising cases, the MoHP has urged the public to implement the 'Larva Search and Destroy' campaign to prevent further outbreaks. The government has also announced that it will cover the treatment costs for dengue patients at public healthcare facilities.

Additionally, the Division has reported 75 cases of cholera across the country, with the majority in Lalitpur district (50 cases), followed by 10 in Kathmandu, 8 in Kailali, 2 in Pyuthan, 1 in Makawanpur, and 4 in Rolpa.
