Kathmandu: Tribhuvan University (TU) has officially banned the use of artificial intelligence (AI) during examinations, warning that any use of AI will result in the exam being invalidated. This decision was made by the TU Exam Reform Committee on Monday, under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. Khadga KC.
The committee expressed concerns that the growing reliance on technology, particularly AI, is diminishing the reading culture among students. The ban aims to discourage cheating and promote creativity and originality, which the committee views as key indicators of student integrity.
"Students' reading habits are deteriorating, and instances of cheating are on the rise, prompting us to take this step to prevent the misuse of technology," Dr. KC explained.
In addition to banning AI, TU has also prohibited the use of digital devices, such as mobile phones and smartwatches, in examination halls. This move follows complaints about students using these devices to cheat during exams.
On a separate note, TU has announced that students who have failed to complete their academic programs since 2058 BS and semester systems from 2069 BS in various fields, including humanities, education, management, science and technology, and law, will be given another opportunity to sit for their exams.
