Kathmandu: Ruby Khan, who had been protesting since August 9 over the alleged abduction and murder of Nirmala Kurmi, has agreed to a three-point deal with the government, effectively halting all ongoing protest activities. The agreement was formalized on Sunday evening between Khan and Dil Kumar Tamang, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the agreement, the Nepal Police Headquarters will instruct the District Police Office in Banke to initiate an investigation into the allegations of Kurmi’s abduction, captivity, and murder. This directive aligns with a previously filed petition seeking justice for Kurmi’s family.

Additionally, Nepal Police has committed to dispatching specialized officials to the district to aid in a thorough investigation. This deployment is intended to expedite the fact-finding process and provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As part of the agreement, assurances were also made to safeguard Khan and her family. The Nepal Police Headquarters and District Administration Office will coordinate to ensure their security, addressing Khan’s concerns over potential retaliation.

This agreement marks a significant development in Khan’s ongoing efforts to seek justice for Nirmala Kurmi, highlighting government action on pressing security and justice issues for vulnerable communities.
